I know there are a lot of places you can go to get a puppy. Why is getting one from Deep Roots any different? Purpose, planning for health and temperament, dedication and support. To name a few.
Purpose: I am passionate about reducing the staggering number of dumped dogs in our country. I truly believe the only way that will ever happen is through a preventative approach. Breeders should know who is getting their pups, talk with them, educate them, support them, prepare them. Because prepared dog owners are not the ones who will surrender their dogs to shelters or worse. While it takes more sweat (and potentially cursing) than you might imagine, I work hard to ensure that I'm not only breeding and offering the highest caliber of puppies I can, but also that I am sending them home with people who can and will care for them through every stage of life. That's why I firmly believe in asking questions and making sure potential buyers understand what bringing a puppy home really means. I can't force other breeders to do it this way, but it's the only way I can do this and sleep at night too.
Planning: Your Deep Roots puppy is being planned for before the breeding ever takes place. The first step toward the highest quality puppies possible is making sure my mammas are healthy. Deep Roots mammas - who are first and foremost my family's beloved companions - receive excellent nutrition, training, exercise and good old fashioned lovin' every day. See the "Our Dogs" page for details about them and their health clearances. Next, I extensively research and evaluate equally healthy studs for potential compatibility. The pairing must be a recipe for excellent temperament, long term health and correct build or it's a no-go. You will find I tend to focus heavily on temperament. Health and build (also known as conformation) are necessities that go hand in hand and are the boxes I check first. But temperament is just as important. If a dog is "crazy", jumpy, hyper, or no one can handle him, then all the good looks and health clearances in the world don't really matter.
Dedication and Support: Puppies are whelped in my house and handled from the moment they arrive with the end game already in mind: that they are going to be your family member. They are fed a high quality diet and kept up to date on preventative worming treatments and vaccinations. I provide early neurological stimulation (ENS) through Super Puppy Exercises. I work them through intentional and structured socialization protocols during their time with me: sounds and smells in the house, gunfire, grooming (including brushing, bathing and weekly nail trims), swimming (weather-permitting), off-leash walks, retrieving, car rides, visitors of all ages, tractors, ATV's, cows, horses, chickens and more. Because of this you will find Deep Roots puppies are able to accept and adjust to new things quickly, intelligently and confidently. They are microchipped and vet checked before leaving Deep Roots. Your puppy will come home with a sample of puppy food and his or her blankie. You will also receive a packet containing your AKC registration papers/application, your puppy's report card from his/her vet visit, your copy of our contract with health guarantees, your pup's microchip documentation, helpful transition information and his/her Deep Roots health record. I will always be happy to field questions, address concerns and share in victories both big and small in the future. When you take one of my puppies home, you become a member of the Deep Roots extended family.
If you think you're ready for a Deep Roots puppy, you can request a copy of my Contract or begin the approval process by requesting my Buyer Interview Questions through the Contact section of this website.
Stop! Don't Buy A Deep Roots Puppy...
Did you wake up this morning and decide you want to bring home a puppy today? You've never had one before but you think you can get one now and "wing it"? Is a holiday or birthday right around the corner and you think a puppy would be the perfect surprise gift? Think if it doesn't work out you can just "rehome" it or take it to a shelter?
If so, I am not the breeder for you. Puppies should not be brought home without understanding the time, financial, and physical commitment required; they can be (if you're lucky) a 15+ year commitment and should never be a spur of the moment purchase. Please spend some time researching our breeds to make sure they are a good fit for you and that you're prepared for every stage of life with a Deep Roots puppy.
